EDIT:

It turns out that the problem was caused by blocking certain categories of domains with OpenDNS filtering. By unblocking everything, I was able to establish the connection. The strange part is that instead of getting an OpenDNS message that the domain was blocked, I was getting an RSS certificate error instead.

Side note: Google Public DNS does not provide domain filtering. Thus, although it would speed up browsing, it would not allow me to filter content, which is another reason I use OpenDNS.
