Actually, the visual system is amazing; one experiment gave volunteers glasses with optics that turned everything upside down, but after some time, the brain had adapted and they saw everything right side up. Then when the glasses were removed, they had to wait for the adaption to reverse.

The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds, and the pessimist fears this is true.
