 no printing under wine
Just installed wine to my mepis11, and few programs under it, ... irfaview, justbasic,... everything works fine except printing, under wine, non of those programs show any printers not a virtual .pdf or my HP1200. any suggestion? I am total novice, please. All programs direct from mepis11 prints fine, only from wine ...no printers

 Re: no printing under wine
This came from the Wine User Guide. I highlighted the relevant statement: I guess the first question is whether your printer is properly set up in CUPS. Go to this link: http://localhost:631/printers/Make sure your printer is listed there and is properly installed. Make sure the printer is running and it is set as the default printer. EDIT:Forgot to ask which version of MEPIS you are using: 32-bit or 64-bit? IIRC, if you use 64-bit, there are additional packages you need to install in order for Wine to work correctly.

 Re: no printing under wine
Most HP printers work with MEPIS OOTB, and it seems that your printer is set up properly in CUPS. Wine is fully functional with 32-bit MEPIS without installing any additional packages, so your printer should "just work" according to the Wine documentation. There used to be a Wine configuration file, but that file has been deprecated for several years and has been replaced by winecfg. As far as I can tell, there are no specific winecfg settings for printers, but you could run winecfg > Applications and make sure that each of your Windows applications are running under the proper Windows versions, or that the default version isn't set to something that your applications won't run under. Beyond that, I'm afraid I've run out of ideas.

 Re: no printing under wine
What version of wine did you install? Was it the very old one from Debian, or the newest one (1.3.29) from the Community Repo? Joanie is correct, printing from a wine app should "just work" with no intervention on your part. It does for me.

 Re: no printing under wine
I don't know what happened, but now after several bootings, in wine irfanview is printing and my technical drawing is printing ( made with justbasic), The biggest problem is now how to get printer orientation to landscape in mepis and also if I try to print justbasic program listings they are are just thick black lines instead of characters? wierd?

 Re: no printing under wine
Try System Settings/Printer Configuration/Local Printers/(your printer name here)/Job Options and set the orientation correctly.....or you can do this for an individual printing job using the print properties instead of just clicking on Print. You might take a look at the User Manual or our Wiki for hints on how the system works.

 Re: no printing under wine
I think this problem can be fixed within the application you're running in Wine. I run Autosketch from Wine and I have to change the Print Preview settings in Autosketch to "Extent View" and "Fitted to Printer Page" before printing; otherwise, the entire drawing won't fit on the printed page. Does IrfanView have a Print Preview with page setup settings? If so, then your answer probably lies in those settings.

 Re: no printing under wine
Irfanview is working fine My technical drawing program just dump whole screen to printer and there is no preview feature, and that seems not to work in wine on landscape orientation. (in windows vista it works )
Is there any direct command to use from terminal to change the place (coordinates) of a landscape drawing on paper
