@JBoman : robert1 is not running Mepis.

this is a good lesson on why i will always stick with Mepis on all of my other PC's.

what i am finding out about straight Debian in regards to wireless is that you basically have got to build the wireless
networking up by hand. i just was hoping that the more experienced Linux users present on this forum could come up with, or
give me a idea on what to do.

First make sure that wlan0 is listed as the wireless interface in the wicd preferences.

it is not showing up at all. all it is showing is "No wireless networks found"

Is this after hitting the refresh button in Wicd. Where image says eth1. You need to type in wlan0.

at first, i could not find the wicd prefferences, until i clicked on what appeared to be a little arrow on the right upper corner under the close
button.

i did that, originally, there was no entry for that interface at all. i manually typed in wlan0. i did however
found the problem under the advanced tab, the wrong wpa supplicant was used. i made a different selection
from the drop down menu & immediately, it listed my wireless network. i closed wicd, rebooted, checked & verified it was working by
opening up iceweasle & going to the mepislovers forum page. it works fine

a BIG THANKS goes to all of you.
