Default_no_Xorg_preconfig - booted OK
Classic_MEPIS-Xorg_config - booted OK
NVIDIA-Xorg_config - failed to boot.

This is with hardware that failed to boot with B1, and is entirely consistent with expectations.

Usual quick, simple install; now time to play!

Chris

I would expect it to fail to boot with your FX5200 video card when using the 'NVIDIA Xorg config' option, because the pre-installed proprietary 'nvidia' driver is the 195.36.31 driver which is for more recent NVIDIA hardware.

The last nvidia driver that supports the FX5200 video card is the 173.14.xx series legacy driver.

Yep, it was entirely consistent with expectations ;-)

I just tried it for completeness; none of the other options would have been relevant for me.

IBM Thinkpad T41 laptop, 1.6GHz Pentium M (Non-PAE), 1GB RAM, 30GB PATA SSD.

There are probably people with older NVIDIA hardware that aren't aware of this though and might not understand why the NVIDIA boot option doesn't work.

32 bit

Virtualbox
- default booted to desktop
- nVidia to flashing cursor
- Classic to desktop

DVD
- default to flashing cursor, ctrl-alt-f1 gives login, startx fails

- Classic to flashing cursor, c-a-f1 gives login, startx works
- effects work but slow desktop

- nVidia to flashing cursor, c-a-f1 gives login, startx works
- effects work, not as slow

- VESA to flashing cursor, c-a-f1 gives login, startx works, res. wrong, icons horizontal
- effects work, slow

No install - will install 64 bit.

You might get the VESA option to work if you add radeon.modeset=0

Exactly in the same case, but I used a 32bit DVD. VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon 2100; ATI Technologies Inc RS690 PCI to PCI Bridge (Internal gfx). Monitor Samsung SyncMasterB1930.
Installed on HD in 8 mins (because I took time to read everything very slowly before hitting "next" :p . No issues during installation. :celebrate:

64 bit installed quickly and smoothly. I like the time zone option. I found references to Mepislovers in Mepis and Debian Compatibility, Communities and Support sections in the installer. Other than the failure to boot the DVD, this looks like a solid release.

Pretty big failure. Very disappointing for me.

Mepis 11 B2 using 32bit dvd fails to boot to KDM login. Boots to a black screen w/frozen keyboard & frozen cursor, but an active mouse light. After a 15 second delay gets an Nvidia Splash screen, but then a black screen again w/blinking cursor and an unlocked keyboard, but no KDM login.

USB Key made with Unetbootin boots smoothly & very quickly to KDM login. Beauty if you make a USB key with Unetbootin.

AMD6400+ .. Nvidia 8800 gt.. K9AN Neo2 .. 4g ram..
