 aufs
I see an upgrade for 8.5 this morning, where I am working--is is also available for M 11 now? That would be great.

 Re: aufs
I've been upgrading a few computers and I want to say that it did show up in M11.

 Re: aufs
Looking here: ftp://ftp.mepis.com/mepis/pool/main/a/aufs/ , I only see aufs-modules-2.6.* packages for earlier Mepis releases. It doesn't look to me that Warren has added aufs support to Mepis 11.0 yet. There are updated aufs-modules- 2.6.32-1-mepis* packages with yesterday's date (2/24/11). Those updates are for M8.5. If aufs support were to be implemented in Mepis 11.0 in the same manner as it was done in earlier releases, I would expect to see some aufs-modules- 2.6.36-1-mepis* packages in Warren's repo.

 Re: aufs
I apologize for my ignorance, but I was under the impression that aufs was only useful on a Live CD/DVD and not an installed system.

 Re: aufs
For aufs to work in the live DVD the kernel needs to be patched, which it has not been at this moment in time.

 Re: aufs
It can have its use on an installed system: "A union mount is a mount that allows several filesystems to be mounted at one time, appearing to be one filesystem." For example I use aufs in the remastering script. Instead of copying the entire unpacked ISO (takes time and lots space) I just mount it with aufs.

 Re: aufs
@joany, In Mepis 7.0, 8.0 & 8.5 the aufs-modules-2.6.* package was preinstalled and I assume that that is what made the aufs mode possible for LiveCD/DVD sessions. I don't know what if any use 'aufs' can be used for on an installed system. edit: I see Adrian does have some potential uses for 'aufs' on an actual install. @Danum, If the kernel gets patched, is a aufs-modules-2.6.* package still needed as it was with earlier Mepis releases?

 Re: aufs
The main problem as I remember is that there are no patches, or modules, which you need for the kernel Mepis is using. Added the fact that most linux-distro's have moved on from using aufs, debian live is a good example. This is from the introduction @ http://aufs.sourceforge.net/

 Re: aufs
As of today, there are only two "aufs" packages in M11: aufs-tools and aufs-tools-dbg. In M8.5 there are about 20 packages, notably an array of aufs-modules packages, which I believe are necessary to get aufs working.
As much as I would love to see aufs enabled in the M11 Live DVD -- it's a wonderful way to run MEPIS through its paces on real hardware without installing it -- I'm not very hopeful that aufs will make it into the final.

 Re: aufs
If they've moved on from using aufs, are they using something else that provides the same type of capabilities in a Live session that aufs offers?
