Synaptic package manager problem

#1 Postby airart » Mon May 02, 2011 10:33 pm

I'm using 11 rc 3 .98 on bootable usb E: and when i click synaptic package manager I get this message.
A couple years ago I could add packages from the live cd Mepis. and I was in hopes someone knows if this can
be fixed.
It seems to boot up and run well otherwise.

E: Unable to write to /var/cache/apt/
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock

I believe the RC 3 iteration has aufs included. If it does then all you need to do is use the cheatcode aufs on the GRUB boot line. See here for an explanation of cheatcodes: http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=Cheatcodes
Then you will be able to install during a LiveDisk session.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.
