Is there a menu to go to the web sites we setup
Hi,
I was wondering whether there is a menu available where we can go directly to each web site we have set up.
In wamp this comes as it's home page and it also goes to mysql and phpmyadmin.
For a start it seems the only way I can start xampp is to go to a root terminal and type in the commands.
Is there a quicker way, say from a menu item where everything to do with the server is available?
Thanks
Oz

You may be able to wrap the commands as a menu item. Remember that you'll need to prefix the command with kdesu in order for it to prompt you for the root password.

Thanks wireman. Sorry but I started another thread.. http://www.mepislovers.org/forums/showthread.php?p=229531#post229531about something I found which has already been made for unbuntu. I haven't had much fun getting it happening. To start with I get a command error when I enter this command in root. The site is here.. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=223410I will put a link from my other post to close it and so it will all resolve here. oz

Wel I did what the instructs say on the ubuntu thread above, however when I paste the info into the Kwrite file and try to save it, I get this.. Space is correct, but not sure about write access as I can't find it!! Is this because the path is for a ubuntu install and that it is installed somewhere else in MEPIS? I did open another terminal in root to get another Kwrite up however I am not sure where I should save it!! oz ??

Are you trying to do this as root - or normal user?
I looked at the ubuntu how-to - and it says
no sudo advice - so you should be running it as normal user. so -
The ~/.local just means hidden directory /local in your /home/yourusername directory.
And what directory is /rooty?
Very confused

As root in the root terminal.
Oh my...rooty!!! of coarse it's meant to be 'root'.
Too many fingers colliding with one another!
Okay I'll give it a go as a normal user.
Many thanks

Mmm.. Not sure! I did those commands in [David@linux ~], pasted the info in Kwrite, then saved it but got this again.
Could not be saved, not possible to write to.. /home/David/.local/share/application/xampp-control-panel-desktop. Check write access and space.
Is there somewhere I need to give some sort of permissions, as there is plenty of space.
Thanks

Try this
/home/David/.local/share/application/xampp-control-panel.desktop
you used a dash between panel and desktop instead of a period.
could make a difference

That path may be an ubuntu/gnome specific one. Do all those directories exist?
I think in Mepis you're best to just put the xampp-control-panel.desktop file in ~/Desktop and it'll show up on your desktop.
