Post Need Help - Positions Available
Hi all.

Due to personal reasons, I'm going to be relinquishing all of my formal roles with MEPIS. I'd really like to see if I can arrange for some of the roles I was looking after to be filled please.

I guess this ties in with my governance thread. We've had a lot of people over the last 3-4 years talk about helping - here's your chance!

  1. First up - we'll definitely need another ML forum admin. The job involves becoming familiar with the forum software (I learnt enough to do the basics with zero help within two weeks - so it's not difficult), and my role was mainly around maintenance and stopping the spammers. I can help teach the basics to whoever steps up to the role. For me - it was typically involving about 2-3 hours per day (spread throughout the day in short bursts). Depending on the individual - this could be cut back. At the moment you'd be working with Carl and Karen. You need no prior experience - but you do need a willingness to apply yourself, and a level head (non-explosive nature helps with moderation  )

  2. Next - I'd like to have somebody step up and assist with learning packaging and possibly maintaining. Tim, Stevo and Scott shouldn't have to do this by themselves. The work is surprisingly easy to learn and is very rewarding. You just need patience, and ability to follow a formula. The other guys are great teachers. Tim and Steve really taught me a lot.

  3. Comms with Warren is hopefully being organised.

  4. Please reread my Governance thread. It could really help this Community and IMHO is the logical step forward. I leave it in your hands to implement it ....

Lastly - I'd like to thank you for taking me under your wing and teaching me so much over the last 4-5 years. I'd encourage you to get involved in your community - it is very rewarding.

I am stunned and greatly distraught to hear this. Brooko, you truly are not replaceable. This is a huge blow to the Mepis community.

What would it take to convince you to stay in some formal capacity?

Nope - I'm just a person. The community was here before I was. It'll be here afterward. The only one irreplaceable is Warren.

I don't want any doom and gloom because of this. You have a lot to look forward to. MEPIS 11 is going to be a stunner. The Community is in excellent shape. There are a lot of projects that people can involve themselves in. In short - the future is bright and rosy.

But people need to step up. I started with no Linux experience and leave the management side with heaps. It's just someone else's time.

I'll likely still be around - but doing things in my leisure time now.

If you're distraught - do something about it. Make MEPIS what Warren always dreamed it could be. It starts with Community ....

How long could you keep that after stepping down last time, 3 months? I appreciate your ML work and think we will see more of it, no matter how hard you try to concentrate on other things.

Sorry Henry - this time it's for the medium/long term.

Well I cannot say it is not unexpected, all to do with the priorities of life.

Just don't fall for the 3 card trick out of Morgantown again Paul.

There is more to life than computers,:bythepool: and it should keep you out of the :doghouse:
But you can be justifiably proud of what you have achieved here at mepislovers with your forward thinking, expertise and diplomacy,
I just hope it will continue, built on the solid foundations you have laid.

John

Thanks for all you've done Paul.
I sincerely hope that the personal reasons for stepping down do not prevent you from being around.

Taking a ride sitting in the backseat can be quite comfortable...:-)

Regards, Ko

Post Life is all about the ebb and flow of different phases...
@Brooko:

We all thank you for the excellent work you have done.

And, I like 'Ko's sentiment, about how you should sit back,
take a breather, and enjoy the ride 'from the back seat'.

Your 'moderation' will be missed!

Firstly, thanks to Brooko for all the work you have done to help get MEPIS back on track.

I'm sure Brooko would rather see some volunteers for the positions he talks about rather than all the (deserved) pats on the back.

So I'll volunteer to help with 2) packaging, though I know absolutely nothing about it (keen to learn and it will help me with antiX).

Can't package, but I have volunteered to take over the communication with Warren, with some help from peregrine.
