I'm not quite clear about your problem. You've selected a new Win3.1 machine, created the virtual disk, pointed VBox to the floppy drive for installation of the OS - and what happens? What error message do you get?

AFAIK, you cannot combine multiple floppy images on a single CD. I think the best you can do is to create a "high-capacity" 2.88 MB floppy image by combining files from two 1.44 MB floppies (plus copying the boot sector from the first one) and burn those onto a bootable CD. This is not much of an improvement IMO. So it seems that you'll have to make a separate CD from each floppy and load the disks in one at a time.

Even if you succeed in installing Win 3.11 as a virtualbox guest, you are likely to have little joy running it.

I once installed Win 98 in a virtualbox, but found that it was for practical purposes unusable. Do you have something which you really need to run, but which will not run in Win XP?

I think that's right. Now W2K is another matter (cheap on Ebay), and I can still run a lot of useful stuff on it--such as Excel 2003 with the add-in ASAP Utilities (I wish they would port that to LibreOffice!).

What are your settings under storage? The floppy should be listed under ide controller. Highlight the floppy entry, under attributes on the right hand side click on the disc icon & there might be an entry for host floppy. Select it & a entry for passthrough should appear. Make sure this is checked. I don't have a floppy installed myself but suspect it will be similar to setting up the cd drive.
