In konsole, run the command below edit: if that doesn't work, you might try the lenny-backports version of flashplugin-nonfree, it's at version 1:2.8.3 (versus the 1:2.8 version that's in the M8.5 repo) http://backports.debian.org/debian-backports/pool/contrib/f/flashplugin-nonfree/flashplugin-nonfree_2.8.3~bpo50+1_amd64.deb

Re: outdated flash in synaptic for mepis 8.5 [Solved]
thanks. as per suggestion by kmathern the following terminal input produced the upgrade su -c 'update-flashplugin-nonfree --install –verbose' checking at the adobe website indicates this machine now runs adobe 11.1.102.55. ( http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.h ... %20machine) however, synaptic still reports this machine has adobe flashplugin- nonfree 1:2.8 now, whenever we click on a youtube video, the firefox browser instantly closes.

Try to uninstall the one in synaptic. Then reinstall again by using the terminal command. Hope this will help.

Re: outdated flash in synaptic for mepis 8.5
According to the test page ( http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.h ... %20machine), you have the most recent flash {other than beta versions}, so don't remove the flashplugin-nonfree package. The version of the flashplugin-nonfree package (1:2.8) in Synaptic won't match the flash version (11.1.102.55). The flashplugin-nonfree package just installs some scripts to download the current version of the linux flash tarball from Adobe.com. If you remove the flashplugin-nonfree package, the script with the command from my last post is also removed. I think this might be what is causing firefox to crash when running youtube flash video: http://www.basicconfig.com/linuxtips/firefox_crashed, the section on "Enable hardware acceleration".

Re: outdated flash in synaptic for mepis 8.5
I don't know if this might help, but Firefox has an add-on called "Flash-Aid" that supposedly removes conflicting Flash plug-ins and does fine tuning to improve performance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... flash-aid/It was developed for Ubuntu, but it also supposed to work on Debian systems. (I would certainly advise backing up your system before using it, however.)

Re: outdated flash in synaptic for mepis 8.5
I use it. It does work, but asks for a sudo password. so sudo needs to be set up for Mepis.

Re: outdated flash in synaptic for mepis 8.5
thanks to all.
after wrestling with Konsole commands, updates to flash, synaptic, and many hours of study what i've accomplished is zero.
this began with online websites demanding that i upgrade flash version, then progressed to no video, then updated flash unable to deliver audio, and eventually, after 2 days of hassle, this problem leading me to seek a updated hardware & new software (mepis11) solution. that did not work.
there is a limit to how much time anyone is willing to devote to trying to fix simply mepis. I gave up on mepis 8.5 and flash and help from the forum to solve my problem.
now, it appears i've pissed off Kmathern, who assumes I did not read or act upon his advice. that is not the case. hours were spent working through the Iinstructions kindly supplied by Kmathern but the end result was more frustration.
among other things, running “su -c 'update-flashplugin-nonfree --install –verbose'” with mepis8.5 resulted in no sound with the video. getting sound with video has been a ongoing problem with "simply mepis"8.5 for well over a year.
pls close this thread. i'm worn out with it.
