jbinup for 64-bit Mepis 8

#1 Postby namida12 » Mon Jul 19, 2010 1:47 pm

Has anyone managed to get jbinup working in a 64-bit version of Mepis 8?

There is a English section on the forums, but I do not read enough German to register in this forum, to post and ask questions...

Yes, I am still looking for a non-MS Usenet posting program...

I am using a 10 year old win98 program to post with UUencode running under wine (powerpost 2000), but I now have needs for a yEnc posting software package I can use...

I haven't actually posted with it, but it runs, and I can change settings & the like.

You have to install sun-java6-bin first, and on MEPIS 8 if you do that with Synaptic you'll need to click on "Details" to scroll down to the prompt to accept the java license before the install will finish.

I downloaded JBinUp 0.90 - Beta 8 - All.zip from the site, extracted the folder, moved into the folder & typed
java -jar JBinUp.jar

I like starting programs like this from the command line as you sometimes get useful messages there.

timkb4cq,

I have these installed:
Sun-Java6-bin 6-20-0lenny1
Sun-java6-fonts 6-20-0lenny1
Sun-java6-jre 6-20-0lenny1
Sun-java6-plugin 6-2-0lenny1

I downloaded JBinUp 0.90 - Beta 8 - All.zip

I extracted the zip into its own folder.
I then opened a terminal in the the folder and typed:
java -jar JBinUp.jar

Got a gui asking me for language: I picked English and have a small gui with three columns in German with English menu on the top...

Guess it is time to use a alt.binaries.test and see if I can make it work...

Again Thanks for your assistance, now if you were close enough to give me some lessons on how to download and get newspost working, I might be properly set up correctly for a long while...

timkb4cq, I try to keep you informed with my yEnc posting success...

Again thanks...

timkb4cq,

Months later I can report JBinup is now working in this computer, and i have made some test postings...

Tutorial Link to set up your Usenet account with JBinup
http://forum.jbinup.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=448

Bit sad as some of the communities where I post, are UUencode only, and do not enjoy yEnc...

Unfortunately JBinup only posts yEnc style and has no toggle to switch styles, and it never puts the yEnc notation in the subject header...

Does not mater to me, I can add the notation, but I can not use it in a few of the groups where I post. They voted 8 years ago to stay with UUencode, so I am still on the hunt for a newsposter.

But I wanted to let you know I have a working JBinup yEnc style Usenet auto-poster...
