I googled that error message "nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for /usr/lib/flashplayer/libflashplayer.so" and found this thread:http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/nspluginwrapper-no-viewer-found-604816/

Post #4 in that thread suggests using aptitude: "aptitude install nspluginwrapper flashplayer-mozilla". It might be worth a try.

edit:
found another thread here: http://blog.niceperson.org/2007/07/01/nspluginwrapper-howto-for-debian-sid/
{search for that error message "nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for /usr/lib/flashplayer/libflashplayer.so"}

Right below it is something about creating a symlink
Quote:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/noarch/npviewer /usr/bin/npviewer
{though we don't use sudo} {edit #2: it looks like this fix might not apply to the sid nspluginwrapper package}

No go with either "fix".

I will take your lead and do more Google searches.

Did you see my edit #2 to my last post?

That symlink "fix" from 2007 might be too old for the current version of the nspluginwrapper package.

Looking at the nspluginwrapper package's contents (http://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/nspluginwrapper/filelist), it no longer has a /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/noarch/npviewer file (the lenny version does). Maybe change the symlink to one of these:

Quote:
ln -s /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/noarch/npviewer.sh /usr/bin/npviewer
Quote:
ln -s /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer /usr/bin/npviewer

Still stymied. tried the two ln commands you suggested and a couple of others after looking at the /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper sub directories with no success.

I am close to just installing a 32 bit system as a last resort, but obviously this will require a lot of work to reinstall sid and KDE 4.4 and then configure everything the way I want it. So I am hanging in and forgoing flash for now.

@ Richb,
Your post number 10 shows you trying to install flashplayer-mozilla_10.1.82.76-0.1_amd64.deb from Multimedia.
If you're using nspluginwrapper/ ia32-libs (+-gtk) approach though, shouldn't you be installing the i586/i686 version instead?.

That, as nspluginwrapper + ia32-libs is to allow you to run 32-bit Flash under a 64-bit system.

Good point.

The problem is partially solved as Adobe has released an experimental native 64 bit version. See this thread.

Post Flash-videos in 64bit M8.5
Totally remove the flashplayer .deb(s) you have installed in 64bit Mepis 8.5

Download the 64bit "Square" flashplayer beta from Adobe (tar.gz file)
http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

Close FF.
Unpack the tar.gz file in an empty folder: it contains libflashplayer.so

As root copy that file to:
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and to
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins.

Now restart FF and in about : plugins you'll see the flashplayer.
Youtube flash videos work in 64bit
