Klauncher is not running anymore

Post Klauncher is not running anymore
Over the past couple of months I've notice the icons in the lower right corner next to the time, would disappear or not even appear after a re-boot. It seems to be a hit and miss which would appear or not. but mostly the icons for wicd and the HP GUI.

Yesterday I installed Thunderbird 7 and removed Icedove 5, but in the process i ended up dragging the Icedove icon from the taskbar onto the desktop. I then changed the desktop view from "desktop" to "folder". I was able to delete the Icedove icon which would not delete prior to the change.

This morning, I was greeted with a large red "X" and stating the following

"Error launching /usr/share/applications/kde4/dolphin.desktop. Either KLauncher is not running anymore, or it failed to start the application."

Now, none of the icons are on the bottom right. Everything seems to work normal other that the icon problem and the error message.

I googled the problem and tried

$ dcopserver_shutdown
$ kdeinit

Now I did not receive any errors with those commands, nothing seems to have changed.

Still get the error on start up and no icons.

Best known from the error message: KLauncher could not be reached via DCOP which either indicates a serious problem with the dcopserver or that klauncher crashed.

klauncher can be restarted by restarting kdeinit from a console window. Make sure that $ HOME , $ DISPLAY and the various $ KDEDIR(S) are set correctly when doing so!


Are you running stock M11?

Running stock SM 11, but with the 2.6.39 kernel that Stevo built and in the CR

You should not be able to 'drag' an icon from the Panel to anywhere except the Panel. And then only if you unlock widgets first.

Have you also checked the system tray settings? Right click on where the icons are and it'll appear.

Then go to "entries" and check if they are on auto or visible or hidden and set them how you like.

Well I did, and it came up as icedove.dekstop, I think.

Attached are the only icons available. No wicd, hp gui, kmix, etc

You can read your /home/user/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc file to find more information about your system tray. At the end, above the clock and calendar are the apps you're looking for.

Upate:

Turned off the Open GL effects and rebooted. The icons are back (see attached) and no error message on start up about klauncher.

Is there a correlation between the 2?
