Post Suddenly, plenty of updates
Hi all,

This is just a check question. I'm on Mepis11 64 and I keep my system fairly up to date.
Recently, I got 50 something update notifications at once, which I found odd. I wanted to check my enabled repositories to see if I had, by any chance, enabled a backport of some sort. I realized that etc/apt/sources.list does not exist, so I checked the repositories from the synaptic package manager. They are:

Code:
http://dl.google.com/linux/talkplugin/deb/
http://www.mendeley.com/repositories/ubuntu/stable/
ftp://mepis.mirrorcatalogs.com/mepis/packages/mepis/
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/
http://security.debian.org/
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/

I checked what was going to be updated. Lots of libraries and some gimp updates. Also, these names seemed important:
dpkg, locales-all, perl, samba, xsever...

I'm asking all this because I remember not so long ago there was an issue with a big update which messed some people's systems up. So, if any of those who are in the know as to the Mepis repositories could evaluate this, I would appreciate it. I just want to check if all these updates are safe.

Thanks in advance.

They're OK -- updates from the debian repositories.
By the way: In M11 /etc/apt/sources.ist DOES exist. Check again.

Depending on the video driver and chipset you may need to reinstall the video driver after the upgrade of the xserver packages. There's a thread or two about this on the forum.
