Re: Lenovo G770 - unpartitionable + hybrid graphics
Sweet. As stated before, there shouldn't have been any reason you couldn't clean up the OEM install mess, but with the OEM's and M$'s proprietary nonsense and the "prove to us you're not a pirate" crap it's never a sure thing.

Re: Lenovo G770 - unpartitionable + hybrid graphics
About the hybrid graphics: I have only put Linux on one machine (MSI) with the ATI version of these, and that was Archlinux. This link worked in that instance, so it might give you some guidance ( or at least further search parameters): https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Hybrid_graphicscheers, greywolf.

Re: Lenovo G770 - unpartitionable + hybrid graphics
An update on the hybrid graphics... Firstly, thanks for all the help and input. Secondly, I've now a working Linux system on this Lenovo G770. No cheat codes, no driver installs, no switcheroo business, no PITA stuff. Just a sweet no-nonsense first-time hard install with no glitches whatsoever. Three subsequent days of several reboots, updates, playing around, partitioning, redoing grub and MBR, and the system hasn't coughed once. It's the only distro so far to work OOTB for me with hybrid graphics installed. Fedora 17 64 bit KDE (Sabayon nearly made it). But at least I'm back on Linux. Looking forward to SM12 in due course to see how it fairs up with dual graphics setups. Hope it works as I just lurve my SM. Cheers again.

Re: Lenovo G770 - unpartitionable + hybrid graphics
Should be a lot better since later kernels have worked dual graphics into what they can handle.

Re: Lenovo G770 - unpartitionable + hybrid graphics
I posted somewhere the actual kernel number but can't remember it off hand. It was in the later 2.x versions that it was incorporated. So the next Mepis should be fine. If you're running the latest hardware then another distribution may be a better place to be at times.

I have a Lenovo with hybrid graphics, so feel your pain - the battery use .... I have heard about Bumblebee ( http://linux-hybrid-graphics.blogspot.c ... lease.html ) though haven't played with it.

Re: Lenovo G770 - unpartitionable + hybrid graphics
Mine are Intel and ATI. I hadn't questioned dual graphics on purchase - they were just the spec.
Don't know what card I'm on now (suspect just the Intel), but the graphics are very good, resolution perfect, and my flight sim through Wine is crystal clear and smooth.
Hopefully M12 won't alter that.

Except if nVidia, they have no driver support for Optimus graphics. I use a 3.2 kernel and you are stuck with one or the other.
