Re: Mepis 8.0.15 stripped down as a file/print server
There was a static copy of it somewhere, but I can not remember where it is.
There used to be a torrent for it, but when LinuxTrcker had a security breach, all was removed. If you do a search for SimplyMEPIS-CD_8.0.15-minimal_32.iso you may find a torrent still up somewhere, though you could achieve the same thing with antiX base, install cups and samba, plus a little configuration and have a smaller footprint though.
If you can't find the torrent and still want it, I can re-establish the torrent from my side.

The public servers still have 8.0.x versions. You may have to hunt to get the .15 version. Or you can simply do an apt-get update and an apt-get dist-upgrade

Maybe even start with antiX-core. It is c115MB, no X, cli-installer easy to follow.

I still have the iso and could help in seeding if that's what you decide to do. I don't have the md5sum, so I couldn't verify my copy. It's probably best to go with newer software, i.e., as AntiX suggested.

If there's a way to get it in my hands I'll be happy to put it on my http server and offer it up. I run this from my home machine and would only ask that people contact me privately and I would supply the link. I don't have a domain, so it would be a raw IP you'd be getting.

A quid pro quo? Dang, I hadn't even thought of that. I like your style.

md5sum checked fine; loaded right up in Deluge and I've joined you as a seed.

You could always get a dyndns address. Free options are available, but it only costs about $10 a year for higher level services. That way, you could have a warm, cooked domain instead of a raw one Mike P
