kmathern, where is the terminal now? should I not be installing kde4multimedia (I can't find kmix for ex)? I don;t really know where to ask that question about the terminal right now... :(

Its probably at Kmenu > System > Konsole or Kmenu > System > Terminal
{when I say "KMenu" I mean that "big blue K" in the lower left corner}

When you get into Konsole run:
Code:
su -c 'apt-get update && apt-get install synaptic'
Doing that will allow you to be able to use a graphical package management tool.

I don't know if this will work on your system, but on my Mepis it is "big K"> System > Terminal Program (Konsole)

If that does not work, try hunting around the "big K" menu tree.

I'd suggest the antiX sub-forum for further questions.

Thanks again! the su -c 'apt-update' didn't work but the 'apt-get install synaptic' worked, where can I find it now?
Lucky9 , in which subforum should I ask the question about the audio?

oops, they both should have been "apt-get".

It sounds like you got Synaptic installed anyway.

Synaptic should be in KMenu at:

KMenu > System > Synaptic Package Manager[INDENT]or
[/INDENT]KMenu > Applications > System > Package Manager (Synaptic Package Manager)

{ It depends on whether your KMenu is using the "Classic Menu Style" or "Kickoff Menu Style" }

There's a cool terminal for KDE called yakuake. You just hit F12 and it rolls down from the top of the screen (press F12 again and it rolls up), very practical.
I don't know if you have it already, but if you don't, you can install it as root with
Code:
apt-get install yakuake
