No sound with headphones in Antix M11
Hi, I've just successfully did a fresh install of Antix M11 as a third OS in my laptop (the other two being Windows and Mepis). So far everything works fine except that there's no sound when I plugged in the headphones. The speaker works without any problems but when I plugged in my headphones, the sound was gone. To verify that it wasn't the headphones fault, I booted into Mepis and check that it was working fine there. I went to the control center and tried to configure sound system, it says no supported PnP or PCI card found but I didn't probe for legacy ISA sound cards since it says that it might make my system unstable. Also tried to get more information and found this in PC Information: ################### PC INFORMATION - audio ##################### ################### Press CTRL + C to exit ##################### Audio: Card-1 ATI RV710/730 driver HDA Intel Card-2 Intel 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller driver HDA Intel Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Version 1.0.23 Also, I've attached a screenshot of the AlsaMixer in case anyone wants to see. So, any suggestions? EDIT: This problem also exist in Mepis 11. I've posted the thread here: viewtopic.php?f=84&t=30509EDIT: This problem is solved! Solution at the third page, seventh post.

Re: No sound with headphones in Antix M11
The sound issue can be very complicated. I've been working through this issue with antiX 8.5. Before I rehearse the details, just a simple observation to see how it resonates with other users:
My install of antiX 8.5 exhibits what you've described: internal speakers work fine, but no sound through headphones. There are lots of online discussions of this (with solutions--some work for some people, some don't). I've modified all the configurations I can find with no success. On the same computer, my Mepis 8 partition has no problem with sound at all. So what I'd like to know is whether other users experience something like a bug or kernel glitch that entered the mix between versions 8 and 8.5--which may now have been perpetuated into version 11 of both Mepis and antiX. Getting info on this might help simplify some of the really complicated trouble-shooting of sound problems.

Re: No sound with headphones in Antix M11
Asus EEEPC 701SD. Still running AntiX8.5 with Headphones work I know. Different Hardware. Different Kernel. Different release. It's late here and I will boot and test my latest AntiX 11 fresh installs on my EEEPC 900 and my IBM A22m with headphones tomorrow. There was a command for terminal for seeing what was turned on and off in alsa via a command. Can't remember at the present moment what it is. Tired I guess. http://wiki.debian.org/ALSAmight help later

Re: No sound with headphones in Antix M11
Sorry I can't come up with anything better than saying my headphones work. My IBM A22m, Headphones OK. Stab in the dark links http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=14526http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=57796I would also check and make sure anything in bios is not disabled relating to headphones or maybe a hot key may be interfering also since you have sound otherwise.

Re: No sound with headphones in Antix M11
Thanks for the follow-up, Roky. I've followed those links without getting much of a solution. I've tried updating alsa and modifying the identification of my sound card--still same problem. One important difference from your and bk_7312's screenshots is that my alsamixer never shows headphone adjuster. It can't be a bios setting because booting into Mepis 8 gives me full sound without a problem (and the same version of alsamixer gives me a headphone adjuster!). So something about antiX 8.5 is knocking out the recognition of headphone speakers.
Pesky glitches like this usually get solved in later releases, that's why I was waiting for version 11. But it looks like everything after 8.0 has a problem with my sound card (HDA Intel, G45 DEVIBX).

Re: No sound with headphones in Antix M11
Found a jan 2011 bug report googling " HDA Intel, G45 DEVIBX Debian Wheezy" since AntiX 11 is based on Wheezy. I don't think it is Mepis Kernel related so much as Debian Wheezy alsa related. Bug report seems to go no where though. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=611666Spanish thread with your sound card talks about using You'll notice that my inxi -F readouts that testing is using Testing and Sid are at http://packages.debian.org/sid/alsa-utilsSo if having build-essential installed Notice I don't have it installed yet on this fresh IBM a22m AntiX 11 yet. You can follow this spanish thread and install newer alsa driver alsa-driver-1.0.24 via the below thread for your sound card. You will have to translate the page. I translated via tool>translate page in my Iceape browser in AntiX. Link Below. http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... rmd%3DivnsIt would help in troubleshooting if you and bk_7312 would post laptop make and model and inxi -F readouts in this thread also to give more detail to look at also. Good luck with it.

Edit: The links describe the bug as "internal speakers = no sound" but "headphones = sound." Mine's just the opposite. Internal speakers are fine, but the headphones give no sound though they do cut out the internal speakers.

Re: No sound with headphones in Antix M11
You could try installing gstreamer-alsa. I had a similar problem with antix, then I installed gstreamer-alsa and things started to work.
I dunno, maybe that'll work for you. :-)
