 Pre-install questions
First, I apologize in advance: I am OCD big time. I hope I'm not too painful for you.
I have read the FAQ.
I see three types of downloads. ** core-squeeze (486 & 686) [small] ** base (486 & 686) [medium] ** plain (486 & 686) [large]
What are the differences between them?
In hardware terms, where do you intend the break point between 486 & 686 to be?

 Re: Pre-install questions
You should be OK with i686 plain which is the full iso with all kinds of choices. Base iso is for more experienced AntiX users like me. I am saying this because of your original post. Core iso which I also run is for very experienced Linux users also. Without knowing your computer specs. It is hard to recommend i486 unless you have a really old computer without a pentium processor. http://www.webster-dictionary.org/definition/Intel%20486Which is why I recommend you download the i686 (plain you call it) which is the full iso.

 Re: Pre-install questions
Next.
So, plain (full) is like an M11 live cd install. Core is like a Debian net-install. Base is somewhere inbetween. Got it.
Looking at desktop comparisons, Xfce seems to be the most complete environment. It's in the Debian repos. Is it one of the options in full?
Will full allow me to select Squeeze instead of testing?

 Re: Pre-install questions
antiX-full uses icewm and comes with fluxbox (and other window managers). It uses Debian Testing repos. If you immediately change to only use Debian stable after install, you should be ok to keep with stable. antiX-base is also based on Testing, whereas antiX-core is based on Stable.

 Re: Pre-install questions
I want Stable and Xfce. So, it sounds like I'll use core and do what I usually do with a Debian net-install.
Thank you all very much for the clarifications.

 Re: Pre-install questions
i686 equals PentiumPro or later.

 Re: Pre-install questions
That does make sense in a way. The Pentium, Pentium OverDrive, Pentium MMX, and Pentium OverDrive MMX were kind of "better 486's" with a new name and improved architecture. So that explains why the break is at the Pro and not earlier.
Thanks

 Re: Pre-install questions [Solved]
I finally had the time to do this install. I did read the article. The install went as every net-install I've ever done went - well. Since I didn't want a clone of the system in the article I made different choices. The install part is done.
Thank you.
