Post Kernel testers needed
Could you test out the antiX kernel (and headers) from here:

http://www.mepisimo.com/antix/Testing/

Preferably for those using PI/k5/k6 boxes.

Post results and output of inxi -F

Note: To install.
Download the .debs to a folder
cd into that folder
in a root terminal type dpkg -i *.deb then
update-grub

Seems to have installed ok. The ndiswrapper error is not important (to me, yet) and the other one about symlinks is minor, (and probably easy to fix). Neither error should effect how the kernel works (if you need ndiswrapper, then you might have issues with wire;ess)

Post Re: Kernel testers needed
I'm not getting the same impression about my output.

My current situation is:
Code:
silverbear@missi:~$ uname -r
2.6.36-1-mepis-smp

The kernel didn't upgrade.
I'm clueless as to the "ndiswrapper" issues. I'm running a wired ethernet connection to this machine, so that part isn't functionally relevent to me.

As far as this part:
Code:
dkms: WARNING: linux headers are missing, which may explain the above failures.
please install the linux-headers-3.1.5-antix-586-smp package to fix this.

The headers package you gave were supposedly installed prior to installing the kernel.
Code:
root@missi:/home/silverbear/Downloads# dpkg -i *.deb
Selecting previously deselected package linux-headers-3.1.5-antix-586-smp.
(Reading database ... 92360 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking linux-headers-3.1.5-antix-586-smp (from linux-headers-3.1.5-antix-586-smp_3.1.5-antix-586-smp-10.00.Custom_i386.deb) ...
Selecting previously deselected package linux-image-3.1.5-antix-586-smp.
Unpacking linux-image-3.1.5-antix-586-smp (from linux-image-3.1.5-antix-586-smp_3.1.5-antix-586-smp-10.00.Custom_i386.deb) ...
Done.
Setting up linux-headers-3.1.5-antix-586-smp (3.1.5-antix-586-smp-10.00.Custom) ...

So I don't understand this subsequent output:
Code:
Examining /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d.
run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms 3.1.5-antix-586-smp /boot/vmlinuz-3.1.5-antix-586-smp
dkms: running auto installation service for kernel 3.1.5-antix-586-smp:
      ndiswrapper (1.56+r2729)...failed.
dkms: WARNING: linux headers are missing, which may explain the above failures.
please install the linux-headers-3.1.5-antix-586-smp package to fix this.

Is this saying that because of some (irrelevant to me) glitch about nsdiswrapper the kernel install failed?
Even so, why does it say the headers are missing?

Forget the rest for now, because this is the part that IMO things got snarled. Let's see what other folks report before we secrete too much skull sweat, eh?

For the record, after rebooot i get this:
Code:
silverbear@missi:/lib/modules$ ls -l
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Apr 22  2011 2.6.36-1-mepis-smp
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Dec 15 14:56 3.1.5-antix-586-smp

. . . so it's there, at least!
;)

BTW, sorry for not getting back to you on the ongoing antiX manual work. I'm still willing. Do we have a git repo for this project (as distinct from the antiX FAQ 11 git repo i set up)?

Post Re: Kernel testers needed
Thanks so far for the feedback.
I should have mentioned that this is the first time antiX has tried with its own kernel.
It might be better to install the headers file without dkms installed.

If that doesn't make any difference, remove the headers and see if the kernel works ok or not.

Also you might need to install cpp-4.6, gcc-4.6 and gcc-4.6-base

Here is my inxi output.

The installation is in a virtualbox. Maybe I should reinstall the guest additions.
