 Re: antiX-> netbook
What did you try that you thought was the answer?
What message did you get, if any, when you tried to boot?

 Re: antiX-> netbook
i'll dig it up again and post it here for you. EDIT: i started by booting the antix cd, and unmounting my usb drive and runnimg antix2usb.sh -D /dev sdc be back with more info after i do that, again. now i take out the usb, and plug it into the netbook. edit2: from the netbook, i have the error message: Minimal bash like line editing is supported. for the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. anywhere else Tab lists the possible completions of a device/filename.

 Re: antiX-> netbook
Hi, Harold. I've installed antiX to my wife's EEEpc 904ha, so i know it can be done. Her model has an IDE hard disk drive, like a regular desktop or laptop computer. Some netbooks have a solid state ("flash") drive (SSD). Strategically, it would be wise to discuss your system before installing --make/model of the netbook. Details. Then we can advise you better. Booting a netbook from a usb device has a few essential steps. Preparing it for installling a second OS also requires a few preliminary steps. Does your netbook already have an OS? Do you want to keep MS-Windows, and add antiX as a second OS? Or do you want to totally remove MS Windows, and have antiX as your only OS? An ounce of planning prevents a pound of regret. We want to help you set up a system that ROCKS! We need details. Make/Model of netbook. Disk drive size and type. Plans for the machine: one OS, dual-boot, or three or more Operating Systems? Partitioning your hard drive FIRST--before any other step is wise --and you can best do that when you decide first what your plans are for the machine. RE: booting from a USB stick. If you put the antiX system on the USB stick with the Unetbootin utility, that usually works well. BUT: you need to set up the netbook so that it will boot FIRST to a USB drive instead of the regular HDD. If you are not sure how to do that, please say so, and we'll help. We were all there once! I'm confident we can get you up and running once we have the details of your machine and how you want it to be. --SilverBear

sure thing. first it is an asus eeepc 900 4gb ssd, 512 ram. it is to be a linux only, currently runs ubuntu 9.5 easy peasy. 1.5 i think. no! i repeat, NO! MS WINDBLOWS. i do want antix as the primary system, the other can go away. what is the unetbootin utility and where do i find that? and i can currently boot from the usb drive, but the error i posted is what happens. i could set it always to boot from the usb drive, but i am using it as a temporary boot, to install the antix (hopefully) system and be done with it. i hope that answers your questions?

 Re: antiX-> netbook
You say you're using a variant of Ubuntu 9.5 (easy peasy) so there might be a version of Unetbootin in your repos right now. I'm not sure what codename Ubuntu 9.5 equates to, but I see 'Lucid' thru 'Precise' versions of Unetbootin at packages.ubuntu.com http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite ... unetbootin It's also available from the Debian repos: http://packages.debian.org/search?suite ... unetbootinAs well as the Mepis CR repos: http://main.mepis-deb.org/mepiscr/repo/ ... netbootin/And the Unetbootin homepage here: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

My 900 install http://antix.freeforums.org/antix-11-ee ... t3104.htmlMy Mic Fix http://antix.freeforums.org/eeepc-900-m ... t3433.htmlAs you can see from my how to. I installed / to the 4 gig SSD drive and /home I moved to the secondary 16gig SSD drive. You won't have to do that on your install. However. I might suggest something since you only have a 4gig ssd drive and I know the effort it takes to keep that drive from filling up with apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrades. You might consider using the base iso to save on install space to /. Full iso takes up about 2.1gig after initial install. You can keep it from filling up after doing apt-get updates and apt-get dist -upgrades with the following commands in as root in terminal. Limit writes to ssd on EEPC http://antix.freeforums.org/limiting-wr ... t2389.html

 Re: antiX-> netbook
Later on in the end of the month or next month the new AntiX iso should be released also.
I received a 16gig SD class 4 External Flash drive from the wife. My plans for that is to install the new AntiX iso to that. Format my 2 internal SSD drives as Ext2 for just storage. Run AntiX off of the 16gig SD card on my EEEPC 900 and set boot order for that in bios. I will document as always how I am going to try this new experiment out when the new iso is released. Hope I am successful with it.
Of course. I won't format the internal SSD drives till I get a good working install going first on the external SD Flash card.
