AntiX - No Wireless internet connection
Last week, i installed AntiX 11 on a friends laptop. i used the ethernet connection to do the updates. however, getting the wireless to work is another story. the wireless card is a cardbus / express-card Linksys card with a Realtek rtl8180l chipset that has kernel support & has worked with previous Linux installations on this laptop.
the problem is that although it is connecting to my network, i am not able to bring up a website or ping a ip address. my network uses WPA2 personal encryption with a passkey.
iwconfig shows this: root@antiX1:/home/jon# iwconfig lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"linuxuser" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point: 00:16:B6:BF:45:B8 Bit Rate=11 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Encryption key:off Power Management:off Link Quality=42/100 Signal level=42/100 Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
lsmod shows the proper drivers are being loaded. (irevelent parts snipped) rtl8180 23944 0 snd_mixer_oss 10105 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 46446 3 snd_pcm_oss,snd_ac97_codec,snd_maestro3 eeprom_93cx6 959 1 rtl8180 snd_page_alloc 4857 1 snd_pcm mac80211 142376 1 rtl8180 snd_seq_midi 3392 0 cfg80211 97225 2 mac80211,rtl8180 rfkill 10646 1 cfg80211
so what is killing the internet connection?
Wicd shows me as connected, but i cannot access any websites

Re: AntiX - No Wireless internet connection
I don't really have experience with wireless, but does using ceni rather than wicd to conect get any better results? Does it need a reboot?

Re: AntiX - No Wireless internet connection
when i first went to set it up, Ceni was the first application that i used to set it up with. it was giving me the same identical results. Wicd was the last app that i tried. in both cases, both apps were showing me that they were connecting, Authorizing, & fetching a ip address. the other thing in common was that i was only getting a 42% signal strength reading although i was approxamatly 6 feet from the router. i have rebooted every time & still no difference.

Re: AntiX - No Wireless internet connection
I wonder if the encryption is on correctly. You might try: followed by Replace KEY with the actual key number. For details, type man:iwconfig in Konqueror. HTH

Re: AntiX - No Wireless internet connection
Just showing my setup for a I use wpa2 wireless OK in wicd on here. Ceni and me get along sometimes. Sometimes I don't get along with ceni. As you can see. My terminal readout in screenshot matches his but I connect to wpa2 OK.
