Post Idea for manual / wiki: from KDE3 to KDE4
Since the next MEPIS version is going to come with KDE 4, we might add a specific section to the wiki and the manual to help users getting smoothly from KDE3 to KDE4.

I would co-operate in writing it.

Idea for approach: first make an inventory of all things that are different between KDE3 / KDE4. Also make an inventory of 'what's new'. Categorize and start writing. Short and concise. No need to highlight all differences between individual apps, but focus on issues that may baffle users.

If we agree, we can open a 'differences' thread as a starting point or continue here.

Sure, it's going to have to happen anyway.

BTW: mods, this thread belongs in the Documentation forum.

Put on my mod hat and moved my own thread... :)

For starters, I will give some things I remember would need to be addressed:
- Menu. Especially if Warren opts for Lancelot.
- Dolphin instead of Konqueror
- New settings menu (default vs. tree view. Different options)
- Plasma widgets / dashboard
- Taskbar
- Plasma activities
- Kwin effects
- Krunner (Alt-F2)
- Absence of Kprinter
- Powermanagement
- Network management (Plasmoid? Wicd?)
- Device notification and mounting
- System notifications / notification settings
- Desktop / folder view

EDIT
Must not forget:
- Theming

Somewhere I remember reading an explanation of the differences between KDE4 and KDE3. Might be a good, already written, starting point.

My impression was one of the KDE sites by way of a blog link. But my remembering is not as good as it should be.
I'll start looking....

I can help when I get back in three weeks. I have to write a how-to on tweaking dolphin anyway.
