Help with new "Synaptic errors" Wiki entry
I started this new entry, with a cross reference from the main Synaptic entry, but could use some help with completing and checking it.
TIA

OK, edited the wiki.
There is another variant of this problem when the /var/lib/dpkg/status file is munged - the solution is different for that variant of course.
And I changed the directions to remove all the list files since we don't know which file will be corrupt. I only specified in the other thread because we had an error message indicating which file it was.
Running apt-get update replaces all the removed files.
There's a third possible variant when a badly formed package has been added to a repository and you need to remove that repo temporarily, but I didn't add that one to the wiki as it depends on the user figuring out which repo has been affected from the error message, and because we want folks to report that if it ever occurs so we can fix it.

The more I think about it, the better this entry looks to me, b/c there are a lot of incomprehensible error messages that rightly disturb newbies.
Could you also look at the authentication error message when you have a chance?

Jerry,
How about a section on the error
Dynamic MMap ran out of room. Please increase the size of APT::Cache-Limit. Current value: 20000000. (man 5 apt.conf)
and the fix:
increase apt cache limit to higher value say 50000?
in /etc/apt/apt.conf
cheers,
ohh

Good one. Are you going to put it in? I created a template for you to follow.

I just edited that one. Please see if it's a clear enough explanation.

It looks good--I added a couple of useful links and a bit of editing.

The template idea is pretty smart, we should use it in other pages where we ask people to input data...

Checkaptgpg is now in the 8.5 community repo, so I just edited the gpg_error section to remove the reference to the 8.0 CR...
