 M11 Desktop Quickstart
Danum came up with a good idea a couple of weeks ago: have a separate document on the M11 desktop dedicated to just making the new user familiar with basic desktop use. He then followed up and produced a draft document for us to use. SilverBear and I have now edited, adjusted to the documentary context and style, moved some parts to the Users Manual, and reworked the document in HTML. This link brings down a zipped folder containing both the HTML document and the graphics folder. http://db.tt/lSizNNYWe would like to have a quick review before we send it to Warren. (I wonder if we might need an image or two toward the end...) NOTE: As I said in another post: we don't have much time now, so I have to stop this review period at the end of Friday in whatever time zone you are. TIA

 Re: M11 Desktop Quickstart
This is a nice guide. 1. Section 1: Minor point: Panel graphic does not show a connected wifi, suggest it be modified to do so - NOT Critcal 2. Section 2: "The context menu shown is with widgets unlocked" 3. Section 4: ( but not always),- remove the space in front of "but" 4. Section 9; Confguring Virtual Desktops - The text does not match what I see. maybe Danum was using KDE 4.6?
Original Configuring Virtual Desktops: You can increase the number of virtual desktops, change the default names, assign activities, configure effect animations or assign keyboard shortcuts for switching virtual desktops. To add additional desktops, right-click the pager in the panel and select Add Virtual Desktop. A new desktop is shown in the pager. For any configuration options, right-click the pager and select Configure Section "Screen" To add additional desktops, right-click the pager in the panel and select Add Virtual Desktop, a new desktop is shown in the pager. For any configuration options, right-click the pager and select Configure Desktops. Set the options according to your wishes and click OK to apply the changes and close the configuration dialog. Well written, I think you can send it to Warren after applying richb's suggestions for editing. And the idea itself is very good. In my opinion additional images are not needed as the text is very clear. Henry

 Re: M11 Desktop Quickstart
. I like it.
Nitpicks:
#2 locking the widgets in there current position (should be their). #3 right-click an empty patch on the desktop ohe cashew icon #6 the weather report as desktop back-ground. (should not be hyphenated) #10 (Managing Files and Folders) Navigate to the destination folder in which to insert the object/s. Should be object(s).

 Re: M11 Desktop Quickstart
As a low end user who has become relatively proficient with M8.5 and hasn't played with M11b3 yet ( its been a very full year ), I just wanted to note that the Quickstart made sense to me and that I understood all of the concepts.
Thanks for taking the time to take a FAQ and polish it into a newbie friendly guide.
Is this going to have its own desktop icon or how would a newbie be enticed to open it upon a successful installation of M11?
