 Re: MEPIS timeline
If you like trivia the German article is nice. Like the plans to start a Mepis-journal. And personal email support from Warren costs $ 9.95 for 30 days. That was back in 2003. Henry

 Re: MEPIS timeline
I do read German, and will look at it. Seems like there is a need for more than a simple timeline...an actual short history instead with that release table we have started as just part. Could be fun.

 Re: MEPIS timeline
The original Warren Woodford article in wikipedia was deleted a long time ago. Some of the information gathered could be used for a new one. Henry

Interesting, thanks. He sees the corporate perspective better than most, seems to me.

 Re: MEPIS timeline
Yes, I've read that one. There is too much information everywhere, but not very much dating back to 2003. Still looking for an early piece where Warren explains his views about how to spread Mepis. | | | | Quote: Tux Like an Egyptian Submitted by warren on Sun, 08/24/2003 - 21:40
I've been asked why the distro is called MEPIS and why I have a funny hieroglyph for a logo. So for your amusement, here is the mythical reason:
The hieroglyph is of Tux/Thoth, who brought writing, calculating, archiving and many other technologies to the ancient Egyptians. It completely changed the world, just as Tux's Linux may do today.
In those days, the city in Egypt, in fact the largest city in the world, where Tux/Thoth's gifts were most used, was called Memphis--or was it Mepis?
So get MEPIS Linux and Tux like an Egyptian! | | | | |
He had a lot more of this stuff in the beginning. Henry

 Re: MEPIS timeline
If you're doing a wiki entry - I'd also recommend doing a parallel timeline for the community. First Dev Group, establishment of Wiki, Community Site founded, Forum start dates, Repo founding - stuff like that. Would be a nice touch, and nice to give kudos to community members past and present for the roles they've played.
Just a thought & may be interesting for newer members to learn a bit of history....

If some forum history is included, here are some logos. Sadly the logo for the MepisLovers eyecandy site seems to be lost. Henry
