 Mepis Manual Problem
I've been reading through the Mepis Manual, and on this page - file:///usr/share/mepis-manual/en/index.html#section02-3 - it says; I tried that and it doesn't work for me (I'm using the default terminal in Mepis 11 - etc:bash) - here's a readout from my /etc/fstab - and here's the readout from the attempt to md5sum - I get the same thing when I switch to superuser Is there something I'm missing?

 Re: Mepis Manual Problem
I think that used to work with CDs, probably doesn't work anymore with DVDs (can anybody confirm?) I think it needs to be removed from the manual or changed.

 Re: Mepis Manual Problem
I was trying this out with an antiX CD - I've been trying to find a way to verify the CD after it's burnt for a while, so I thought this was it!

 Re: Mepis Manual Problem
hmmm, I don't know it works for me, I usually just run a md5sum /dev/cdrom (it works on DVD too, but it gives a wrong sum).
There might be a problem with the CD itself, can you try with a CD that you know it's good?

 Re: Mepis Manual Problem
Joany has a method for getting the DVD's md5sum, check this post here: viewtopic.php?p=178016#p178016You would replace the "2530975744" number in Joany's example with the size of the iso file (in bytes) that the DVD was created with.bigboppercole has a script in the post that follows Joany's that might also work.

 Re: Mepis Manual Problem
md5sum works for me on a downloaded ISO But I could not get it to work with a CD. EDIT: all is explained on this page. We are going to have to change the Manual. EDIT EDIT: there is what looks to be a nice script here, maybe *we* could test and adapt that.

 Re: Mepis Manual Problem
BTW: can we move this to the Documentation forum, please? (Should I be able to do it?)

I guess you need to be a mod as well as an admin to see that. Odd feature of the software. You would think an admin could moderate fully. Look now, bottom left "Quick mod tools". I "promoted" you.
