 Officially free of windows
My desktop has been running sstrictly linux since got it a few months back. The old machine was dual boot with windows xp but had been running Mepis for a few years pretty much exclusively. Last night I repartitioned the HD on this laptop and did away with windows completely. Running Mepis 11 on the big box and 8.5 on the laptop. I could not have ever done it without the support of the fine folks here. This site and the folks that visit here is what sets Mepis apart from the other distros out there.

I will never be free of it. Need it to sync my iPhone and update my Garmin golf GPS and Garmin Auto GPS. That is all I use Windows for.

I only use it now to interface with my Palm-based data collection unit (Aceeca MEZ 1000) and the collection software app (Pendragon Forms).

Speaking about the Garmin and other devices. When do you supose that those manufacturers will come around to realize thier need for Linux adaptability?

 Re: Officially free of windows
Never say never. Maybe Garmin will support Linux in the future (don't those GPS units run on Linux anyway?) And when your iPhone dies, you could always switch to an Android phone.

 Re: Officially free of windows
Has anyone tried Garmin's Mapsource in Wine? Wine states that version 6.13 and 6.115 are suppose to work with Wine 1.3.2.

 Re: Officially free of windows
The update software for the GPS units is Windows only. I have not tried using Wine. How successful is wine in recognizing oddball USB devices?
