Post Should the 'mlrepo' suffix still be used with CR packages?
This is not a real big issue, just something I'm curious about.

Now that the Mepislovers site no longer exists should the 'mlrepo' suffix still be used with CR packages? I assume that the 'ml' part of it stood for 'Mepislovers'.

If the 'mlrepo' was discontinued what would it be replaced with?

btw: what is the technical term for that part of a package name? {I'm sure it's something other than my term of 'suffix'}

Good point, how about "mcrepo" (MEPIS Community repo) or maybe only "mc"

That's a good question. I think mcr would work nicely, or ~mcr if we want to follow debian a smidge more closely (debian-backports uses ~bpo). Perhaps adding something about the release as well like debian-backports does (they use ~bpo50 for lenny - release 5.0, ~bpo40 for etch, etc.). Keeping in mind that if a port for M8.5 is ~mcr85+1 then it would have to be ~mcr110+1 for M11 unless we renumber - which we could do, since the first CR wasn't until M7.

Something to ponder. for a day or two...

~mcr seems fairly easy to understand.

I like the ~mcr.

I was kind of thinking that you would keep using the 'mlrepo' suffix with the existing 7.0, 8.0 & 8.5 CR repos and have the change take effect with Mepis 11.0 CR packages.

I also like the ~mcr and like the extra info idea like the ~mcr110+1 even better. Jerry

Sounds like a good idea. I have to keep close track of packages that have the same source tarball in the 8.0 and 8.5 repository, and it's easy to mix them up when the only difference between them is a "mlrepo1" and "mlrepo2".

It would also be nice if the new 11.0 release had an official name, much as Debian has Squeeze and Ubuntu has Maverick. I know Warren mentioned this; I would propose picking from a list of ancient Egyptian localities, such as Thebes, Karnak, and so on. There seems to be enough to create a list that could be in alphabetical order, too:

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... e_Delta.29

Then a line in the changelog would read something like

foo (0.2.3-0~mcr110+1) karnak; urgency=low

Obviously Stevo has been taking lessons from Karnak! :rofl:

Great idea! :clap:
I think it's not really necessary to be alphabetical. After all, debian isn't. Besides I'd like a little more separation from ubuntu.
