Post How many are sticking with MEPIS 8.5?
Being as M11 has a better KDE 4, better video drivers, and all-around updated packages? I'm asking because I wonder if it's worth maintaining packages for the 8.5 community repo any longer, if most have migrated up to 11.

I can understand some staying with 8.0 and KDE 3.5 on older machines, so don't have any problems with maintaining what we can on that platform.

I skipped past 8.5 and went from M8 to M11 (even though I still have a copy of M8 on my drive), so I don't know if I should vote "I'm upgrading to 11." Nice to know that 8.0 will still be maintained to some degree, though.

I agree, moving to 11 for packagers is only right. You all do a tremendous job and doing anything for 8.5 isn't a good idea.

.
The poll needs a third option:

I want/need both.

Since that option is unavailable, I had to vote for cold, dead hands.

Sticking with 8.0. For me, KDE 4 is nothing but a slowdown for basic things like file management when I'm actually producing some work. Ksnapshot in KDE 4, for instance, is not as fast and good for my purposes. Some of the community backports for 8.0 have come in handy and that's why I have been using Mepis for some time now. Thanks for the continuing availability of 8.0.

On my laptops (which are used wirelessly) I use M8.5 since both of my Ralinktech based wireless adapters (RT2870 and RT2860) don't work with the 2.6.36 kernel in M11, neither with staging driver nor with compiled .deb from the latest Ralinktech source packages.
On my desktops I use M11.
Sticking with M8.5 on my laptops is not a Mepis problem; it's Ralinktech which hasn't updated its driver packages yet for newer kernels.
Since I use my laptops 95% of the time I very rarely use M11.

The wife won't let me upgrade her from 8.0. She is perfectly content with it. I'd have to pry it from her cold dead hands while being beat with a large stick.

I, too, am sticking with 8.5 on the laptop, but have 11 on the desktops.

Yes, there should have been a third option "using both".
