Re: How many are sticking with MEPIS 8.5?
I've got Mepis 8 as my "memorial" to KDE 3 and Mepis 11 for KDE 4. As for 8.5 it was fun while it lasted.

LOL! Same here! Are folks who have used 8.5 noticing a big difference between the KDE4 version used there and the one in Mepis 11?

Re: How many are sticking with MEPIS 8.5?
I have been using M8.5 without problems for a long time on my production machine and plan to continue using it for the forseeable future. Exactly what problems have others had with M8.5?
I recently acquired a new Toshiba L6550-S5110 laptop that came with Win7 on a 500 Gb HDD and 4 Gb memory. I like it a lot and plan to eventually triple boot it with M11, AntiX11 and Win7 after I think I learn enough about how to do this since I have never done this type of setup before. Any tutorials or other info that you are aware of that would help me do this? I have already looked at the Wiki and have done some Google searches.

Re: How many are sticking with MEPIS 8.5?
I have installed Mepis 11 over most of the 8.5 installs here at BagShotRow. Although I did install Antix 11 base on a server* and currently I am installing Mepis 11 on an EEE 900A netbook. The netbook was/is difficult because Mepis 11 wants to install about 3.8 GBs of stuff and the SSD in my netbook looks to be 3.7 actual GBs. I will tweak on this project a while and if it proves to be too much then I will image it back to 8.5. The Tramp * http://oakdome.com/k5/tutorials/compute ... loning.php

Re: How many are sticking with MEPIS 8.5?
My main machine had MS 8.0.15 64 bit for a long time on it. HAL moved my printer setup to the other side of the planet and I could not get it back. So that is gone. Loaded MS 8.5, both 32 bit, 64 bit, on two different machines. No workie right for ether machine. So that is gone. Have MS11 32 bit duel booting, on a MacBook Pro. Still working to get the gears greased right. Have AntiX i686 duel booting, on a MacBook Pro. Still working to get the gears greased right. So do the will of the Community as needed.

Re: How many are sticking with MEPIS 8.5?
How easy or difficult this will be will depend on how the manufacturer laid out the drive. Some will set up separate boot, recovery, system, and data or driver partitions, using all the available primaries. Getting around that will require some serious work. If they've only used three or fewer primaries, it's not as difficult. Short answer is that we would need to know exactly how the drive is laid out and what is where in that layout before telling you how to proceed.

Sounds like a plan. Here is a good read for you > http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/grub.html also read up on grub2 from links in that tutorial. Personally though I really get my jollies when I get to wipe out 7, vista, or xp from a machine... I mutter "it's me again Bill... he he he".

Re: How many are sticking with MEPIS 8.5?
My MO has always been "To infinity and beyond!" I'll always have the backs of those who push the envelope. Even though we've been through some long dawns .... That being said, I noticed that I am reluctant to wipe my 8.0.15 usb stick as it has come through for me so many times.

Re: How many are sticking with MEPIS 8.5?
The OpenOffice/LibreOffice issue has me sticking with 8.5 on my desktop and even considering changing my laptop back to 8.5.
My database was created in OO 3.whatever on Mepis 8. The problem with M11 is that they want you to go with LibreOffice, which won't work with my OO database. I did manage to get OO 3.2.1 from the Squeeze repository, but it has a bug and scrambles my database records.
So the choices are:
1. Install 3.3 from the OO site (which I'm trying, but getting unsatisfied dependencies) 2. Figure out how to get OO 3.1.1 (which is what 8.5 has) on M11 (tried, but not successful) 3. The easiest - install 8.5 and run with it.
So until there is a good, uncomplicated option for getting OpenOffice 3.3 or later on M11, I'm hanging on to my M8.5.
Edit: I was just guided to the Tutorial for installing OO on Debian versions, and using the command line I was able to install 3.3 on my M11 machine no problem. Now I will be considering moving my 8.5 machine up to M11. Can I change my vote?
