Post A basic guide to Dolphin.
Breadcrumbs vs. Location Bar

Konqueror has a web-browser-style location bar that allows you to type in the file path you want to reach.
Dolphin introduced a feature to KDE called breadcrumbs.
Each folder in a path hierarchy is a button that you can use to navigate back any number of steps.
If you prefer the location bar method or ever need to type a path in directly, move your mouse to the end of the path
until the mouse pointer turns into a cursor selection. Then, just click.
To revert back, click the check. You can also turn the location bar on by default in the settings.
To toggle back and forth, you can also use Ctrl+L.

View Modes / Details

There are four view modes in Dolphin, just like Konqueror: icons, details, and columns.
Use shortcuts to switch between them: Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, and Ctrl+3, or click “Viewâ€Â

*Somebody* will try to find the time to merge this with the existing KDE 4 Wiki material...

Furthermore, to all and sundry Dolphin users:
I'm working on a Dolphin page for the Wiki.
It's still in progress, but I'd appreciate it if anyone who wants to help out does so.

If you don't want to edit the Wiki yourself, write to me and I'll work your material in.

Danum: thanks for the "fish" tip --I'll be sure to put that in.

Am I correct in assuming that a browser will use html?
I guess any text files from KWrite is what you're warning about. Right?

Notice most of this regarding the KDE 4.3 desktop is listed under KDE 4 Desktop
70% of which is not relevant to 4.4 which is due out 9th February if all goes well
is it possible to change KDE 4 Desktop to KDE 4.3 Desktop and then people will not be confused.

Thanks--let's wait until we see it before we go changing the Wiki structure again.

Post Dolphin wiki entry
I've pretty much finished working on the Mepis Wiki entry for Dolphin. Many thanks to Danum & Jerry for assistance on this page.

http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=Dolphin

I'd appreciate it if everyone could look it over and add any info that ought to be there that I've left out.

Remember that the Wiki entry for a program does not have to be complete documentation of every possible feature. But with something as crucial to the KDE4 desktop as Dolphin, I've tried to give a fairly organized run-down on the basic features, with a few links to more info on KDE's website, so it's a long page.

If you are hesitant to try writing in the Wiki but have info you think is important to include on this topic page, you can post it here or email it to me. Be sure to write it up in as much detail as you can. I can always edit it down to be more concise, but if I don't follow what you're trying to say I can't just make it up from my imagination

thanks,
--SB

PS: at this point, we're only dealing with KDE4.3, as that is what Warren is using in Mepis 8.5. No doubt it will be necessary to address KDE4.4 at some point, but we need to concentrate right now on material Jerry can use in an updated Mepis 8.5 User's Manual. Volunteers to help him on the Manual in whatever capacity, large or small, that you're able to do will be appreciated.
