Adding Dolphin right-click to email via Thunderbird

#1 Postby chatan » Fri Mar 30, 2012 10:52 pm

I post this partially as a how-to but also to solicit any possible better ways to accomplish this (add a package to CR?).
[ BTW, M11 64-bit and Thunderbird 11 from CR ]

I wanted a servicemenu to add the ability to right-click a file in Dolphin and select to email via Thunderbird. I found this:
You could just open Dolphin and goto Configure Dolphin...>Services>Download New Services... and search for Thunderbird and install "Attach to thunderbird"

I restarted dolphin, but it didn't work.

After fiddling around I found that I had to move the 122832-thunderbird_attachment.desktop file from
/home/user/.kde/share/apps/servicemenu-download/
to
/home/user/.kde/share/kde4/services/

Now I do have "attach to Thunderbird mail" in the action menu.

Cheers

Edit: to get thunderbird icon to show: open /home/user/.kde/share/kde4/services/122832-thunderbird_attachment.desktop
and change the icon line to:

Code: Select all

Icon=/usr/lib64/thunderbird-11.0/chrome/icons/default/default16.png

Good find, and very useful; thanks.

Can I just add that if, like me, you have installed Thunderbird from a tarball to your own chosen location, you have to edit the Exec line in the .desktop file to point to where Thunderbird is installed, leaving the rest of the line as-is. In my case, this was:

Exec=/opt/thunderbird/thunderbird (rest as original)

Likewise, you need to change the icon line to the new location, for example:

Icon=/opt/thunderbird/chrome/icons/default/default16.png
