Mepis-KDE 4:4.7.2 upgrade. Edited. 11 11 2011, to use unstable repo, plus one file to download and install, to remove warnings,

There is 1 bug in this install, and it relates to KDE 4.7, after using Firefox and closing, it will remain in the panel, click on the date it will open click on it again to close, and Firefox in the panel will be removed.

Use a clean a 100% install for this upgrade, and do not use a wireless connection to try and do the upgrade, in simple terms it will fail.

Download Simple Root Actions Menu from here, ( unpack, open folder, press F4 log in as root, ./sram_install select Dolphin as file mgr. and install)

http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Si ... tent=72762

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28503495/i386-linux-gnu.tar.gz
unpack it and install in /usr/lib, use root menu to open lib

There are 2 bugs in this install, both relate to KDE 4.7, you cannot edit Kmenu after the upgrade, ...

The kmenuedit executable used to be included in the kdebase-workspace-bin package, it's now a separate package "kmenuedit".

Danum - Mepis-KDE 4:4.7.2 upgrade.

First dumb question perhaps but...

Having followed the procedure outlined would I then have a Mepis 11-modified that can use the CR's and normal repo's? I'm assuming -not- at this point.

Thanks for all your efforts too of course!

You can use the community repo's, most should work, but stay away from the main Mepis repo, it is not included in the sources list anyway,
the default debian repo is wheezy (testing) after upgrading.

Danum,

Having upgraded to kde 4.4.7.2, do I leave the preferences pinned?

Had a slight problem getting kde-standard installed, but it all worked out.

Following much of Danums' advice plus the contents of his post I have 4.7.2 installed and working with kernel 3.1.0-1-686-pae on my Sid install. I clarify though that Danum advises to NOT use Sid repos if you want to avoid problems. I am encountering 1 problem so far with networking.... I have to restart the network after every boot since the upgrade. Am using Ceni to do that. Any ideas to fix appreciated. ...So far I'm finding it very fast and I like it alot; Thanks Danum :campfire: Jerry

Yes well I am about to change the advise about using sid, mainly because KDE has been upgraded to 4:4.7.2-1 (I pulled 270 plus upgrades last night) and as of now there are some incompatibilities when using Wheezy, plus I will make some other changes, because KDE 4.7 is moving into experimental
they have still not cured the bug in kmenuedit, so you will still not be able to edit Kmenu, but it runs like it is on steroids, it is unbelievably fast compared to 4.6..

From reading the qt-kde mailing lists, it looks like KDE 4.7.3 will be skipped and they hope to get 4.7.4 in there within a few weeks.
