 Looking for feedback on mepiscommunity,org
Peregrine has been working with topcat to get his video of M 8.5 on the front page of mepiscommunity.org, replacing the sequence of desktops that has been there for a year and a half.
What do you think?

It looks good. He might incorporate some conky widgets to make it look cooler.

Take care with that song. It was licensed by MS when XP was introduced. And in general, you cannot use music without the artist's permission, I believe...
Other than that, very nice. Just not too fond of Flash content personally...

maybe do the video in HTML5 / Ogg theora now, and have a WebM-Vp8 video ready to go for the next FireFox update? Also, on the subject of music, whenever I needed a "stock" audio track for AC, I'd grab one from http://www.ocremix.org :: the only caveat is that you need to credit OCRemix on the same web-page that the track is used.

I believe that the previous 'changing desktops' had much more appeal. Maybe just try 'modernizing' that look...? I've seen too much rotating cubes by now. It's not a novelty anymore.

I agree, and a first-time viewer wouldn't know what it is anyway.

Looks nice and runs well.
Agree with Carl. Music has to go - it's all copyright. Esp the "Stones: intro. You'd need to get that off ASAP.
Saist's idea is a good one. Have a listen to this piece - it's perfect for an OS display
I really like the overall idea though. What I'd suggest including -
- Startup - like you have it now
- Just a little bit of the cube / eyecandy so you know it's available
- Focus on apps - Browser, Email, Music, Video - try and include the most popular apps we know. Maybe even show something like google-earth running?
- Close-down and fade-out

Too bad the Stones have to go, one of my favorite groups. But I like the new slide show, much more interesting than the changing desktops.

What new slideshow are you looking at. I do not have anything up there at the moment.
