Overall, works well! Nice Job.

User experience observations:
-) The large "MEPIS Users Forum" button makes me feel like I'm already there. How about a position, size, etc that doesn't take away from the main page title ?
-) (related to what Frank mentioned already): The screenshot doesn't fit on my netbooks.

Cheers

I think I'm just going to refrain from posting here at all for a while (at least until some of my nicotine withdrawals from stopping smoking subside some), since things that would normally only annoy me a little (as in the new Mepis 11 wallpaper and new mepis.org home page designs), are now irritating me a *lot*, and I'm finding it difficult to "bite my tongue" to contain my strong dislike of those types of things.

Otherwise, my posts may be too offensive to others that have been working hard on making Mepis better.

In the meantime, it looks like Mepis 11 is running fine on my desktop, and I'll probably install it on my wife's laptop (an Intel Core 2 Duo based Dell Inspiron 1720) to see how it works on it, too. I'm out of town right now, but she visited me over the weekend and left her laptop with me so I could upgrade it from Mepis 8.5 (and I've already made a full disk image backup of it in case something goes wrong).

Thanks to everyone that's worked so hard on getting Mepis 11 ready and please don't take any of my negative comments personally.

JimC

What's hard is that you started posting when we are at the very end of a long dev cycle. If you had gotten involved during the beta phase or earlier with constructive criticism toward a common Community goal your comments would have been very welcome.

Let me just say that anybody else in the Community is welcome to take charge of website development if they have talent, organizational ability and a commitment to follow through. We stepped in just because it was getting late and something had to be done, not because of any particular gifts in design. If a group wants to tackle the job of reworking the home page after M11 release, go for it.

Terrific job, Jerry. Those of us who suffered withdrawal pangs years ago really appreciate all the effort you've put into making the M11 introduction possible. Style nits have nothing to do with the impact or the success of a new release.

Good Morning Jerry3904;

I feel really bad about my comments. They were not meant to offend in any way. So if they did offend you or any one else working on the WEB Page please accept my sincere appologies. They are not show stoppers just an observation. For that matter any of my comments on M11 RC 3 that were taken badly. Thinking about my own posts. Some thing that is not a show stopper perhaps should wait until after the last minute rush to get a release out. It would be differrent if I had been testing along the way and found a real bug with RC3. I will try to be more sensative in the future.
Until the next time we meet thank you for taking the time out of your day to visit
with me. I enjoyed spending time with you.

No offense taken, and no apology needed by anybody.

There is just no time now to go back and redesign, so all these comments are helpful for a revision--or perhaps a completely new design!

I just took a look at the page using a 13" Mackbook(verses the 28" screen). It fits very nice on the 13" screen. Very good job for a last minute fix'em.
And you are very right, this is something that can be worked on after the release to look better. I do think this is a job well done, with the time given.

For what is worth this thread was posted only on April 29, that's like 3 days ago, I don't see that as such a long time, and if there's no time for redesign then don't ask for opinions... just saying, not complaining or anything....
