Got wondering. after Warren's detailed responses about where the Community could help, whether the Dev Team has any intentions. This is not really my job, but as the messenger I wouldn't want to see us ask to be involved and then not deliver.

Maybe this bit of history will help stir the pot. When Marcos and I reworked mnetwork a couple of years ago, we followed a more or less standard waterfall model. I laid out detailed specifications, then we both worked on the design, Marcos did the coding, we both did alpha testing along with some other ML people, then off to be integrated into M8. Warren was notified at the beginning that we were working on it, but then never was involved again until beta testing where--of course--he had important input.

The most pressing need is perhaps mwelcome, and it would be great to see a team tackle the specifications document over the next couple of weeks. Since the basic GUI is done, Warren may well do the coding himself.

Thoughts?

I am keen to help with testing, no much good at coding though.

Maybe we could revisit the Autorunner too?

Who is this "we"? To state the obvious: there needs to be somebody who takes responsibility for any particular project, will round up a team and follow through "on time and to spec."

What if we at least put together a spec sheet for mwelcome? We could use this thread to get it organized and list what we would like to see offered to the user off the newly installed desktop.

My only comment as this is a very bad time of year to start projects. I'm desperately trying to get things finished! :-)

Having said that I'm trying to spend some time to look at setting the timezones in the installer.
