Mepis 8.5 CR - wine Thread
wine-1.2~rc3 - 32 and 64b - will soon be available in the 8.5 CR TEST repo (I just uploaded about 10 minutes ago). This is the third release candidate for the upcoming latest stable release.
I have already tested this on my own installs - and everything works really well with no regressions I can see. I built this using Scott Ritchie's (he is the primary builder for the Ubuntu packages) source files - and it built both arches really well.
Debian appears to have ceased building these (so has Lamaresh) so it's nice to be able to provide the newer builds once more.
wine
Windows API implementation - standard suite. Wine is a free MS-Windows API implementation which lets you run Windows software on other operating systems. With Wine, you can install and run these applications just like you would in Windows.
Wine is still under active development. Not every program works yet, however there are already several million people using Wine to run their software.
Can I please have testers for both 32 and 64b - so I can migrate this package to 8.5 CR MAIN as soon as possible. TIA.
In case this package does not show as the preferred option in test, check this post, as it will assist use of the CR branches.

I absolutely can't get this to show up in Synaptic. - I edited /etc/apt/preferences as per the indicated post.
- I thought maybe it was because I had 1.1.41 manually installed, so I removed it. Now the one that shows is 1.1.38, which I've installed now. It works.
- I'm not seeing any 1.2 version.
What am I doing wrong?

Installed and seems to be working OK here. Cursory looks at Irfanview, Elements 7, and Quicken 2004 all went fine. Thanks!

Installed and tested with the few apps I use. Everything seems fine.
One small nit: The menu item "Browse C Drive" errors because of a bad path. I corrected the menu entry and it's fine now.
Good work.

 Thank You
Installed this and everything works.I had to install the .dbg files as the compatible ones are not available no big deal. Otherwise I hope we keep this updated till the final including the final or Lamarsh finnaly catches up. It works with some of the apps I tested and have preinstalled with an earlier build. Apps or games that did not work before still don't work with this newer build but I expected that. Mostly missing files, or .net errors and the like plus a few generic errors.
As I test more stuff in Wine, I will let you know if I find any bugs to note that are not listed in winhq. Otherwise, Thanks Brooko and Stevo and everyone else here. I know y'all are busy as all heck outside of Mepis, so I appreciate the hard work y'all do keeping us up to date with version of stuff till at least Mepis 10 is out and then some.

Installed it in 32 bit. It fixed one regression that has been around since 1.1.16 and otherwise ran as well as Warren's build.
However it didn't fix the Gecko issue I've had lately. I can install Gecko with winetricks but it won't load automatically with the initial winecfg or with wine iexplore http://winehq.org as earlier versions have. The Installing Gecko window comes up & just sits there doing nothing. Winetricks downloads it in 10 seconds so it's not the connection or that the file went missing.
But I doubt that's a problem with your build as Warren's build acts just the same...
