Post MEPIS 8.5 Community Repo: The Thunderbird Thread
Update: 12 Sept 2011: Thunderbird 6.0.2 in now in the testing CR. Please let us know how it installs and performs. This version uses the system nss libraries, so that should be the latest version, too.

Thunderbird is the famous Mozilla email client (the Debian rebranded version is Icedove).

Post Re: MEPIS 8.5 Community Repo: The Thunderbird Thread
Bump: the packaged Thunderbird 17.0.6 ESR Mozilla binaries are now in the testing community repo for MEPIS 8.5. They will appear as thunderbird-i686 for 32-bit users, thunderbird-amd64 for 64-bit.

Anyway, these install into /opt, have different desktop and icon files, so should not interfere with other repository versions of Thunderbird or Icedove. Please let us know how they are working if you give them a spin. Thanks!

Update: the latest security fix, 17.0.8esr, is now in the testing CR. I reverted to just having the package named "thunderbird", so please let us know how it's working if you try it out.

Update: latest 24.1.0 release now in the testing repository.

Edit: Oops, used the newer xz compression for the debs, which M8.5/Lenny does not understand. Rebuilding them with LZMA instead.

Post Re: MEPIS 8.5 Community Repo: The Thunderbird Thread
I was getting nagged for weeks about this security update, so I turned off the update notification in Thunderbird. Then I was just about to go with the tarball route when I saw this post. The update from the CR test repository installed on MX-14/KDE just fine. Thanks.

@Joany, are you still using your Mepis 8.5 install? I thought you had transitioned over to MX14.

No, I'm no longer using SM 8.5 (although I have partition images saved on a DVD just in case). I'm currently using MX-14/KDE 4.8.4.

I missed the fact that this thread was about SM 8.5. Stevo's update showed up in the MEPIS 12 Test CR, and just wanted to thank Stevo for putting it there.
