 New to Mepis
Im new to Mepis but have been using Ubuntu 10.04 and Linux Mint 10 for a while,I would like to ask if there is an UPDATE MANAGER included in this Os and if there is are updates generated automatically? Any help appreciated Michael uk

The package management system for MEPIS is apt. The GUI for apt is Synaptic. They both access the Debian repositories, and depending on which MEPIS version those will either be lenny or squeeze for the latest versions. There is an apt notifier in the community repositories that sits in the panel and will notify you of updates, The updates are not automatic as you have to initiate the action to update. However you can mark all updates in Synaptic and get them all at once, or use apt-get in a root terminal to do the same.

Actually, I quite prefer it not automatic. That gives me enough time to check and ponder if I really want or need the updates. Oh, Welcome, by the way.

Nor would I. I've had updates mess things up and it's not that hard to tell when that would happen.
