 Re: Not getting correct resolution
P.S.
I'm assuming that the Nvidia driver was not being loaded which is why you don't see the correct resolution options (since your card should be supported). If it was being loaded the below would still apply..
After you get Mepis 11 started using the Nvidia driver (see my last post for a cheat code), when you load the Nvidia Control Panel (KMenu>Settings>More Applications>Nvidia X-Server Settings), select the second menu option on the left for "X Server Display Configuration", and you'll find a drop down list of resolutions (even those that may not be supported by your display) you can select from.
Mine defaulted to Auto which works just fine on my system. But, if for some reason your display isn't being detected properly, just change it using the Nvidia screens for that purpose.

 Re: Not getting correct resolution
I also suspect the chipset is causing this problem. The cheatcode given should help with the initial boot. See here: http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=Cheatcodesfor an explanation. The cheatcodes are a great help for those with late INTEL chips (i3, i5, and i7 processor based motherboards). This is a Linux problem not a Mepis one. Mainly because Mepis is based on Stable technologies. The 'buntu-based Testing distributions are somewhat better at this. But you have to put up with less stability.

 Re: Not getting correct resolution
I think the nvidia driver might be loaded okay, but the horiz. & vert. timing values in the xorg.conf created by nvidia-xconfig might be too restrictive and their not allowing anything higher than the 800x600 res. See this post here: viewtopic.php?p=276170#p276170

 Re: Not getting correct resolution
You might try a cheatcode like xres=1920x1080 confx at the GRUB boot screen. Just start typing, it'll show up at the bottom. See: http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=Cheatcodesfor info.

The cheatcode did not work
Nvidia x server settings tell me I have the 295.40 driver
The highest resolution being 640x480 down to the lowest at 320x175

 Re: Not getting correct resolution
Reinstall the nvidia driver. I suggest using sgfxi. Instructions are here: http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php? ... gfxi#sgfxiActually it will get the latest nvidia driver.

 Re: Not getting correct resolution
My first thought is try the vesa cheat code instead of nvidia .& if that works then reboot & just type 3 at grub screen so xserver doesn't start then run sgfxi and it will prep and install proper driver. Far as that goes i would just boot to cli & run sgfxi. H2 has saved my bacon with that so many times it aint funny.

 Re: Not getting correct resolution
SGFXI only wants to install the 295.40 driver, that leaves me with the same problem no matter how many times I run sgfxi so I downloaded the Linux-x86-190.42-pkg1.run from nvidia that starts the process but then stops with some message about kernel something I will re run it and post it here soon.
