 Re: firefox upgrade
ok, referring to the link you provided,I recently tried the first option installing latest builds and I lost firefox completely had to reinstall mepis, the second option about repositories is possible but Im not sure how to actually add a repository that would provide the firefox upgrade, I know how to add a repo in synaptic , my question is which one, its been quite a few years since I used mepis so trying to get my bearings again, thanks for reply.

There was a recent thread here: viewtopic.php?p=296192#p296192 with almost exactly the same situation.

 Re: firefox upgrade
Hey Meteorite, reinstalling MEPIS was a long way round getting FF back. I gain you reinstalled M8 back? The link that kmathern posted above is the best option for you to follow for getting the latest Mepis optimised FF. Please holler/yell/ask/request help if you are having problems. But if you enjoy reinstalling mepis, well I won't stop you Nothing like a clean install to start the day with hay. Cheers NH

 Re: firefox upgrade
ok I know the reinstall of mepis 8 was overboard but as I have not used mepis in so long it was all I could think of, sometimes get tired fixing pc,s. I took a glance at the new link its still a little out of my scope of knowledge for a quick fix, but I guess I will have a go at it, , thanks for replys

 Re: firefox upgrade
Meteorite, I would suggest you use Synaptic and add the community repositories found here> http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php? ... urces.list ...just follow the directions in synaptic to add. Then install and try the latest iceweasel from the CR using Synaptic. I have both installed but use Iceweasel almost exclusive and cannot tell any difference... plug-ins and add-ons all work the same. Jerry

 Re: firefox upgrade
Meteorite, there isn't a plugins folder in the latter versions of Firefox for linux as much as I can tell. You can ignore that part. A symlink is just a pointer/shortcut to the launch file/script. To create a symlink to the linux system plugins folder, start a terminal as root, and paste the following code into it then hit the enter key. Since you are not going to use the old 3 version of firefox again, lets replace its symlink with the new FF versions one. To create a symlink in the linux system firefox folder that points to the new version of FF, start a terminal as root, and paste the following code into it then hit the enter key. Good luck, if firefox breaks and won't work, don't reinstall mepis, open up synaptic and search for the mepis firefox then mark it for a reinstall and apply/do it.If this method of installing ff fails I have one more way which is to unpack the new ff in a folder in your home folder and run it from there. But lets try this other way first. Out of interest, how come you are installing mepis 8 and not mepis 11? Cheers NH
