 Uninstall MEPIS 8.0 [Solved]
Following the instructions in the Handbook, I successfully removed the Mepis partitions, resized the windows partition and then rebooted the computer into Windows.
Got error message - GRUB Loading stage 1.5
GRUB loading, please wait Error 22
OK now what? Been waiting for an hour (joking)
Brian

 Re: Uninstall MEPIS 8.0
You need to rebuild the MBR. I just rewrote that section of the Wiki: http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=UninstallShould get you through.

 Re: Uninstall MEPIS 8.0
Did you do this: Maybe the CD is not being picked up...you may have to go into the BIOS and check what the Boot tab says about boot order.

 Re: Uninstall MEPIS 8.0
Did you hit any keys? The Windows XP disk will require an input from the keyboard at that prompt when it senses an OS already installed.

If you are getting the grub message it is not booting from the windows CD but still from the hard drive. When in the startup stage some key will give you the option to choose the boot media, F12 is popular. You have to hit the key quickly so the hard drive does not take over. Alternately you can hit a key to get to the bios and select the boot options. Esc or F2 are common keys to access the bios. Again this must be done just after the machine powers up. I often hit the key repeatedly to be sure it takes.

 Re: Uninstall MEPIS 8.0
Yep - hit several keys.
Reading the wiki again - do you think this will work" Alternatively, you can boot into the Windows Recovery console on the hard drive, and run fixmbr from there. For booting, use the MEPIS Live CD and run grub from the command line. Then enter the following commands from the grub prompt:
root (hd0,0) chainloader +1 boot

 Re: Uninstall MEPIS 8.0
Only if you have already installed it there from the CD, as I understand it. In the new Manual, we point to the MS documentation for all this now: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058

 Re: Uninstall MEPIS 8.0
There has to be a key sequence that gets you into the bios. I know of no machine that does not allow this. Consult your machine user manual.

 Re: Uninstall MEPIS 8.0
I managed to beat the machine into submission and it let me boot from the CD.
Hit R fro recovery - it does its think and asks which drive. I answer and get a prompt.
Now what? It still brings up the bootloader. Somehow I have to get to rebuilds the MBR. How?
Did I mention I know hot to turn on the computer - and that is about it?
