Re: Activate wireless from within shell
good evening,
I've been away in Afghanistan for a while but now am back and really want to solve this issue.
In the MEPIS Network Manager, wlan0 is started but will not connect. It finds the router (SKY 60875) but will not connect. It is WPA2 encrypted but on putting in the passphrase, nothing happens. I have tried to restart the network but nothing happens. The network will connect through eth0 (cable) but that's it.
I have tried everything mentioned in the posts above using the command line.
The network is found no problem at all but I just can't seem to connect to it.
Any ideas?

done!
Outstanding.
By setting MEPIS Network Manager to 'manual' and then running wicd-gtk, I am able to connect with wireless for the first time in a year!

Usually I read about someone having to remove Network Manager. Your solution is actually easier.

Ceni from the community repo is also a very good alternative, even more so if you are confined to the command line.

I must not have the community repos because I could find no reference to Ceni at all. Thank you though!

They're in Synaptic. Just enable them. See: http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php? ... t_MEPIS_11ceni can run from the Command Line as well as in the GUI.
