m12 -- another week goes by
Posted May 1st ( viewtopic.php?f=77&t=33009): Warren's tweet from June 3rd: Warren's tweet from July 8th: Maybe we'll see the Mepis 12 final release around the time Debian Wheezy goes to Stable?

Maybe, but if it turns out to be as good as the earlier Mepis releases it will be worth waiting for. Personally I am happy to continue with M11 until WW decides M12 alpha is ready.

Re: m12 -- another week goes by
Mepis alphas tend to be very functional with few bugs. So the delay is not surprising. Warren dos not put one out until he thrashes out the bugs he sees. Then the community steps in with all the different systems we have to get the rest.

Danum and I heard from him that the problems of last week have been solved, so I expect M12 alpha this weekend.

Expect it when it arrives would be my take, plus I asked him to to implement a solution for users with low ram to be enabled by default, but that is down to Warren as to weather he implements it.

Re: m12 -- another week goes by
Yeah. Best not to have any expectations at all as far as when it will arrive; "maybe two weeks" has turned into two and a half months (so far). Look, Warren doesn't owe any of us anything. I certainly understand that. Whenever he puts out a release, it's almost always a quality release, and we all agree that it's "worth the wait." But this business of not communicating with the users? It's plain to see that there's no reason to have any expectations when you look at the fact that since Jerry3904 posted that message back in May, there's been (I might need my fingers to count) a grand total of two glorious tweets from Warren about Mepis 12 -- one in June, and one in July. That's it. How sad. I appreciate what Warren does, but... wow. This is why there isn't much interest in Mepis outside of this community.

Re: m12 -- another week goes by
At least WE know this gem is out there. It is up to US to spread the word If we spread: meh warren is slow, it's not up to date.. whinewhine. what is going to happen? Right. Spread the GOOD word. It is QUALITY. And also add with that word that it is a ONE MAN job. As far as I know most other distro's, certainly the bigger ones out there, have a TEAM. If people don't understand all the above and still complain about Mepis, they should be using something other than Mepis, IMHO.

Re: m12 -- another week goes by
Are there advantages in releasing a "frozen-Testing-based" Mepis 12 instead of waiting for Wheezy to go to Stable?

Re: m12 -- another week goes by
Yes, of course. There's very little about Mepis to complain about. This is its one shortcoming, I guess. But if even a long-time Mepis user, a long-time "MepisLover," says anything about it, here we go: "There's the door; don't let it hit you in the [behind] on your way out."
