Re: Testing thread for M 11.9.60
I get this using a USB stick created with the Mepis tool. My system doesn't have a DVD and I don't have a handy USB plug-in one, so I'm going to have to wait until this is fixed. So far I've only tried the 64 bit version.

Re: Testing thread for M 11.9.60
Yes, anything installed when running the live system carries over if/when installed to hard drive. (I installed rox-filer) Persistence does not work though as changes are not saved if user reboots when running live (though I guess that might be because persistence is not set up rather than it not being there). I noticed that MEPIS 'live' system uses the fll (fullstory) 'method' that aptosid/siduction use. So maybe reading their manual section on persistence might work in MEPIS. Testing out in Virtualbox. Seems to work ok. Nice to see fluxbox included, though I still think icewm would be a better wm alternative for new to linux users that need a lighter desktop.

As a KDE4.8 release it is a 100% disaster that has found somewhere to happen,

Re: Testing thread for M 11.9.60
I toook the plunge anyway on my testsystem and installed M12-alpha 64bit. 1. There was an INIT problem on booting up and on booting down the live-dvd (respawning ID: 'z6' at a rate where the deamon stopped it ). I had to forcibly (on/off switch) powerdown. 2. After rebooting I installed right away and did not have any problem selecting drive sdb to install into and install grub into the bootdisk MBR. All available drives were selectable. Selecting to reboot did not work. Apparently the same problem that appeared on booting up the live-DVD happened at powering down after installation. 3. Another issue (probably related to the 'trying to powerdown' issue and not ejecting/releasing the dvd): That too here, with no disk in it..... 4. Is the message "This is an unsecured session" [at login after booting live-dvd] a 'new' informational message - or is it an error message? Wording should (in my opinion) be changed, as this will for sure not win over anyone who sets out to try such a live-dvd....

Re: Testing thread for M 11.9.60
For me, the issue is with sound. They are.. hissy?
I have no idea exactly how to determine what this is, I'd be happy to run some commands on this install to provide info (gotta love hdd's in a sled). This is with VLC playing, but also on the startup sound, hissy, crackly.. like a plug isn't in QUITE proper but enough to produce enough normal volume and clarity, it's more like a staticky noise. When there is no sound playing I don't hear it.
Also.. the screen letters don't seem as crisp as was default on mepis 11, need to see if any tinkering can be done there. Edit: antialiasing enabled, set up the way I like it, that sorts it. Not at good still though as 11, but liveable :)

I was a no go with the 32 bit USB created with Unetbootin.
Will wait and see.
