Nice little essay and I agree. After wandering all over the Linux landscape I came back to Debian and Mepis as my "go-to" distribution. Hardware problems, if I have them when I go touring, show up with suspend/hibernate and graphics. These seem to be handled more gracefully by Debian and Mepis than anything else I have tried.
