Post MEPIS 11 Community Repo: The Deadbeef Thread
Deadbeef 0.5.1 is now available in the main testing repository. It is built from source code downloaded from the developer's sourceforge page, using a modified /debian folder that the author also maintains in git.

Please let us know how this program installs and works if you try it out. It is quite a nice lightweight gtk-based music program.

The new version goes silent when I enable any foobar2000 equalizer settings (.feq). The older version used them correctly. Any ideas?

Is this the M11 or 8.5 build--I just tested "Import Foobar Preset" on the equalizer on M11, and it did work. The sound did go down, since the preamp lever was reset to zero, but all levels not down to zero. I haven't tested anything in the 8.5 virtual machine, though.

no, it was on the one for M11, I no longer have 8.5 installed. I'll try it again, I had gone back to the older version.....

Weird, it's working now, must have been something I did. Thanks for checking Stevo.

Sure, barring any crazy other updates it may need to compile. Right now I am building upgrades to ffmpeg to 0.8 from squeeze-backports and making sure it does not break anything. I've found that the built-in aac encoder is much improved, but you have to now add "-strict experimental" to the ffmpeg command line to use "-acodec aac"...the preferred is the restricted "-acodec libfaac", which I'm also building.

All this is so I can finish the new "urgent security update" VLC 2.0.1

OK, I have the sources all fixed up and ready to build--I just have to regress to the earlier ffmpeg 0.6 in the CR to build against, so I don't force an upgrade of ffmpeg just for Deadbeef. It looks possible to also build M8.5 versions, too.

Deadbeef 0.5.2 is now in the testing repo, both 32 and 64-bit. Let us know how it works out.
