Post MEPIS 11 Community Repo: The 0 AD Thread
Update: Thanks to all the testers. The first "stable" build we did of the game in now in the main CR. The current unstable development version is now in the test repo, for those that want to help with the game debugging or to test new features. The plan is to update the unstable version as often as time permits, and keep the stable version in main.

Now in the main CR:

We had a request for this game in the alpha stage of development--it's quite playable and looks really addictive. It's basically a Civilization builder sort of game where you build up your town and then defend it:

and requires a fairly modern computer with openGL graphics.

Hey, it's the first entry in Synaptic now--total download is around 280 MB. This is an alpha, so missing music or crashes have to be expected.

I have the community repos enabled, but I don't see it?

Is it in the test repos maybe?

Must be...just enabled 'test' and 'test-restricted' and it is there...

With just 'main' and 'restricted' it wasn't showing.

This is a great strategy game...been in dev a long time...but keeps getting better...If I remember correctly, I think it's an academic project with grad students contributing work...very beautiful work

Stevo,

Installed on 64-bit stock M11...removed the following...game runs fine...libfam0 seems to have something to do with the FAM daemon...not sure of its importance...so far no adverse impact.

Quote:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libgamin0: Conflicts: libfam0 but 2.7.0-17 is installed.
Conflicts: libfam0c102 but it is not going to be installed.
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

Remove the following packages:
1) libfam0

I think that libgamin provides the functions that libfam0 did, so either are going to work.

Yes, new packages almost always start in testing...this one gets updated frequently, too.

Installs on my desktop without issue. I can confirm the removal of libfam0 as well, but so far no problems related to it. Game starts and plays well. I only did limited testing of the actual game play since I don't have the time at the moment to get sucked into a game of this nature. ;)

Thank you for the game! I look forward to the chance of playing it in the future.

Thanks for adding this to the repo! It is an addictive game and my kids love it as well. I've been running it under Kubuntu and it was a little buggy - the latet version is quite playable though (and they added the 'save' game function which makes it easier to get the kids off the computer!).

Is the current version (0.0.0+r10803-1mcr110+1) in the repo up to date? I'm planning to download it tonight off-peak...

It was the latest version in the company's PPA when I built it last week, having being put there Dec. 23.

libgamin0 provides a subset of the functions from libfam0 and provides a virtual libfam0 package. Since libfam0 is a dependency of much of kde 4.6.5 & kde 4.7.4 and is already installed, perhaps on the next update you can see if 0AD will build with libfam-dev instead of libgamin-dev.
Not that I've found any problems - but if the full lib is already installed, why replace it with a subset?

Sure, I'll try the substitution and see how much smoke comes out. :)

Hmmm--it appears that I built the stable release. I can build yesterday's development release (not guaranteed to be stable) which will use the same dataset as the stable one, and we can move the stable version and the data packages into main, since they seem to be working well enough. Let's see what happens with libfam-dev.

Update: the development version does build correctly with libfam-dev, I also had to remove gamin as a hard-depends for the game, and fiddled around with the rules file to build with all available cores instead of just two as was hard-coded. Maybe we can contribute these back upstream.

Anyway, will finish the unstable build, then redo the stable version too.
